Greetings from Daegu Opera House. 🙌

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer and are looking forward to all the beautiful opera moments that await you in the 24/25 Season. We are doing our best for the 21st Daegu International Opera Festival which will take place in October. Please look forward to it!

1️⃣ REVIEW : <Hänsel und Gretel>

Hänsel und Gretel has come to a magical end, bringing joy to families. The enchanting melodies and fantastic orchestration guided the audience into a fairytale. The stunning pink witch amazed everyone, but people fall in love as she danced and chanted ‘Hokus Pokus.’ As it returned after two years, Hänsel und Gretel drew the hottest applause ! Let’s remember this moment through photos! 📸

2️⃣ 21st DIOF Press Conference

On the 4th, Daegu Opera House announced at a press conference that the 21st Daegu International Opera Festival (DIOF) will take place from October 4th to November 8th. With the theme "Open the Way and Move Forward," the festival includes a total of 11 programs: 5 main operas, 4 concert series, and 2 special events.

DIOF begins with Richard Strauss's <Der Rosenkavalier> presented by Daegu Opera House. Evan Alexis Christ, the conductor of <Der Rosenkavalier>, expressed, "This is my first time leading a 100% Korean production, and I am continually amazed by the passion of all singers."

In a co-production, Teatro Comunale di Ferrara of Italy will stage on the Asian premiere of Vivaldi's <Orlando Furioso>, featuring a wide range of sound, including countertenors and contraltos.

DIOF will also present its own creative opera, <264, That One Star>, which features a Korean representative poet of the Japanese Colonial Period. Daegu Opera House created this production from research and concertante and it's finally being premiered as a full opera.

Following this, Korean National Opera will perform Verdi’s <I Vespri Siciliani>, known for its grand overture and based on the "Sicilian Vespers."

Gwangju Culture & Art Center will showcase <La Traviata> on November. Lastly DIOF will close with a Puccini Opera Gala Concert in collaboration with the Bucharest National Opera House, marking the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death.

3️⃣ COMING : Young Artist Concertante & 50 stars Gala

A special performance by young artists from Daegu Opera House OpernStudio!
Young singers from Opern Studio, which is a professional training project in DOH will showcase their talent. Interested in the OpernStudio?
