To All of Our Global Friends 🌍

Greetings from Daegu Opera House. We bids a beautiful farewell to spring with 3 Repertoires in 2024 : <Orfeo ed Euridice>, <Faust>, and <Andrea Chénier>.

As the only opera-producing theater in Korea for 2 decades, we have curated not commonly found operas in Korea and created them into new productions.

For the upcoming summer season, we will come back with amazing opera. Please look forward to it. 🙌

1️⃣ REVIEW : <Andrea Chénier>

Last May, <Andrea Chénier> deeply moved and thrilled its audience with perfect performances.

Our production focused on 'angles'. The 1.6-ton circular hanging piece is compact and grand. Its parallel represents liberty, equality, and fraternit. It sometimes sways symbolizing the downfall of the aristocracy, a kind of pressure. The face of Jean-Paul Marat strongly conveys the spirit of revolution, but its reverse side transitions into the revolutionary tribunal, illustrating the duality of the Jacobin Reign of Terror. In the final scene, the revolving stage merges a staircase and a guillotine, culminating in a death and love.

The world looks like angles, making us think about the life, feeling the depth of love by Chénier and Maddalena. Let's reminisce about this moment through photos! 📸

2️⃣ DOH in Bucharest Opera Festival

On June 8th at 7 PM, the Daegu Opera House presented the 'Puccini 100th Anniversary Opera Gala Concert' at Bucharest National Opera House in Romania, with over 90% of tickets sold. This is the first time a theater from non-European, especially South Korea is participating in the festival.

Established in 1921, Bucharest National Opera House is known for opera and ballet, boasting a repertoire of 43 productions. They have agreed to invite each other to their opera festivals and this concert is the first result. In November, Bucharest National Opera House will perform at the 21st Daegu International Opera Festival.

Puccini's famous arias are featured by top Korean musicians like conductor Kwang-hyun Kim, Sop. Myung-joo Lee, Sop. Yun-kyoung Yi, Sop. Seon-kyong Jeong , Ten. James Lee, Ten. Jung-yeop Seok, and Bar. Dong-hwan Lee along with Bucharest National Opera House orchestra and choir, promising a rich cultural experience.
