In April, our grand production of <Faust> made a big hit, achieving an 81% sales rate. <Faust> captivated audiences with its highly immersive story and flawless acting. The highlight was Marguerite's salvation, with the synergy between powerful organ sound and spectacular lighting effects that filled the entire stage. Remind these unforgettable moments through the photographs! 📸

2️⃣ Ready for <Andrea Chénier>

<Andrea Chénier> is marching to DOH. It's a verismo opera that recreates the life of poet 'André Chénier' who lived during the French Revolution, portraying his tragic love and death in the reality of homeland.

If you enjoyed the musical <Les Misérables>, you'll find this opera even more appealing! Don't miss the chance to meet a grand stage set with the face of the French Revolution icon, Jean-Paul Marat.

3️⃣ <Marcello Mottadelli> : Interview with Maestro

We interviewed with Marcello Motadelli, the masestro of <Andrea Chénier>.

Q. Say hello to our audience.

Hi everyone, I'm Marcello Motadelli, an international conductor from Italy. I've been conducting many times at Daegu Opera House in <Don Pasquale>, <Tosca>, <I Puritani> and <Madame Butterfly>. Now, I'm excited to be back for <Andrea Chénier>. Great to see you all!

Q. For a long time in DOH, you might have a strong bond with us. How do you feel?

Firstly, I'm thankful to Intendant Kab gun Chung. He is a great international director and working with him is a big pleasure. Being in Korea, especially at the Daegu Opera House, feels like home to me. I've made great bonds with the staff, singers, performers, choir, and orchestra. So I'm a half Korean!

Q. How's the chemistry with DIO Orchestra?

DIO Orchestra is special to me. We have a great connection and chemistry. They've improved a lot over the years with wonderful musicians. Especially, Ms. Eun Ji Park (leader) has been here for 18 years and her music is fantastic. I have a personal respect to DIO orchestra for great performance. It's honored for me to work with them.

Q. What are your thoughts on the cultural friendsdhip like this?

From the cultural exchange, I give a lot but also receive a lot in return. We grow up all together. Music doesn't have any kind of passport. It talks to everyone regardless of where we come from or what we believe. We can be united by music without borders. 🌍🕊️

Q. Nice. Let's talk about <Andrea Chénier>.

<Andrea Chénier> by Umberto Giordano is a key example of Verismo Opera. It's known for its sharp, realistic, and strong music. The rhythm of this opera is unique — it devlops rapidly and then suddenly stops.

Also <Andrea Chénier> has various emotions like love, patriotism, and death. Sadly, death is depicted as the only way to freedom. This opera is renowned for tenor's opera, as most of the arias are sung by them, and the scores are quite challenging. Luckily, we have two wonderful tenors at the Daegu Opera House.

Q. Which area do you think as masterpiece?

You know, there's an aria very well known from the movie "Philadelphia" with Tom Hanks, and it's "La Mamma Morta," sung by Maddalena. But for me, the most beautiful, melancholic, and exciting aria is in the 4th act, "Come un bel dì di maggio," sung by Andrea Chénier. It's such a wonderful music.
