The 23rd Daegu International Opera Festival, Korea's leading opera festival and one of Asia's premier opera festivals, will take place from October 2 to 31, 2026. Under the slogan "Bravo Daegu, Viva Opera," this year's festival expands beyond the theater, transforming the entire city into a vibrant stage following the renovation of Daegu Opera House.

A Romantic Autumn Evening with Carmen
Bizet's Carmen opens the festival on October 2 and 3 at Kolon Open-air Music Hall. Presented as a concert opera produced by Daegu Opera House, the festival's first-ever outdoor opera invites audiences to experience the passionate and tragic love story of Carmen and Don José beneath the autumn night sky. |

3️⃣ Turandot & 2026 Daegu Global Opera Market |

Opera for Children and Families
Performed on October 9 and 10 at the Daegu Student Cultural Center, Turandot is a family opera co-produced by Daegu Opera House and Italy's AsLiCo Teatro Sociale di Como. Set in a museum, this imaginative production brings the story of Princess Turandot to life for audiences of all ages. The cast features talented young singers from seven countries selected by Global Audition.

A New Hub for the Global Opera Industry
Held alongside the festival, the Daegu Global Opera Market brings together opera professionals from around the world through the Daegu International Opera Forum and Opera Market. Featuring business meetings, repertoire pitching, showcases, and the Global Young Artist Casting Audition, the program creates new international opportunities for collaboration, content exchange, and artist discovery.

4️⃣ Die Zauberflote & L'elisir d'amore |

A Reimagining of Mozart's Masterpiece
Produced by the Korean National Opera, Die Zauberflote will be performed on October 16 and 17 at Suseong Artpia. Reimagining Mozart's timeless tale of the conflict between light and darkness through a contemporary lens, this production offers a fresh perspective on one of opera's most beloved masterpieces. |
A Beloved Comedy with a Korean Twist
Produced by Art is Potato, Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore will be performed on October 23 and 24 at Ayang Art Center as Yangchon-ri Love Scandal. Relocating the beloved story to a Korean rural village, the production combines humor, familiar characters, and lively storytelling to delight audiences of all ages. |

K-Opera Inspired by the Brushstrokes of Joseon
The festival concludes with The Beauty, performed on October 30 and 31 at Daegu Arts Center. Developed through Daegu Opera House's New Opera Development Project, it reimagines the figures from the paintings of renowned Joseon artist Sin Yun-bok. Following last year's concert performance, The Beauty will receive its world premiere at this year's festival. |
