1️⃣ DOH establishes MOU with China's NCPA for cultural bonds
South Korea–China Opera Co-production Agreed
Daegu Opera House and China’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing have signed an MOU to mark the 2025–2026 Korea-China-Japan Cultural Exchange Years and the 35th anniversary of Korea-China diplomatic ties in 2027. The partnership includes Co-Productions, Repertoire Exchange, and Artist Collaboration from this year. Asia’s largest performing arts complex, also hosts the World Alliance of Performing Arts (WAPA), of which Daegu Opera House is a founding member. This agreement strengthens Korea’s global opera presence and paves the way for cultural cooperation in East Asia.
Both theatres are now accelerating preparations to premiere a joint opera production in 2026.

An Opera for Kidults with Courage and Wisdom
Daegu Opera House brings back itsbestselling signature production Hänsel und Gretel this May for Family Month. This beloved fairy tale opera, featuring Humperdinck’s enchanting music, returns after last year’s enthusiastic response from kidults. This opera is already a hit — with 3 out of 4 performances sold out.
3️⃣ Coming : 2025 Saaremaa Opera Festival, Estonia
JULY : The Sensation of K-OPERA Heritage in Estonia
Daegu Opera House will be the main theatre guest at the 2025 Saaremaa Opera Festival, hosted by Eesti Kontsert in Estonia from July 22-27. This milestone reflects the strong bond between Daegu and Tallinn as UNESCO Creative Cities of Music. DOH productions include Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Sim Tjong, a Korean opera by Isang Yun, and 2 gala concerts: Korean Dance Gala & Opera Gala.
